Throughout my education, I always had a keen interest in science. This led to me studying for my degrees in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, and my first job after graduating was in a pathology laboratory. My career path then moved onto accountancy, training with PwC in Birmingham for my Chartered Accountancy ICAEW qualification before moving into industry as a financial accountant, and then 7 years of running my own accountancy practice. However, with my science background, I never lost my interest in hearing about new scientific developments.
Working at TBAT I feel that I have the best of both worlds – working with innovative R&D clients whilst utilising my accountancy skills. As well as being the Finance Director overseeing TBAT’s own accounts, I have over 3 years of experience working as part of the R&D tax team. I lead the financial side of the process, working on some of our largest claims as well as reviewing all claims before they are submitted. I also liaise with accountants to help ensure that R&D claims are entered correctly onto the CT600 tax returns.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as well as managing my house full of pets, the latest addition being a sausage dog who tries to rule the roost!
