We’re proud to share that TBAT Innovation has successfully completed an extraordinary coast-to-coast cycling challenge across the Scottish Highlands. The ride was undertaken to raise awareness and vital funds for Stand Against MND, a charity founded by our late colleague, Sam Perkins.

On 15th and 16th May, our TBAT team members Ryan Mouncy, Richard Hine, and Dave Schorah took on a huge challenge. Over just two days, they cycled an incredible 312 miles across some of Scotland’s toughest terrain. Their route included the iconic Bealach na Bà and Cairngorm Mountain, with a combined elevation gain of more than 6,200 metres. The trio were supported on their journey by colleague Ian Davie, who provided critical logistical support and much-needed encouragement.
The journey began on the stunning Applecross Peninsula, where the team enjoyed several hours of breathtaking and constantly changing scenery.
One of the standout moments came at the end of Day 1 with the demanding climb to the top of Cairngorm. “The scenery was just magical, and reaching the summit was a real highlight, though we only appreciated it once we were finally at the top,” said Dave Schorah.
Meanwhile, back at the TBAT office, a team took turns on a static bike to collectively reach 312 miles. Their challenge came with fewer obstacles, as there were no hills, weather, or headwinds to contend with, and a full team to share the workload. It quickly became clear just how tough completing the journey was going to be for the cyclists, reinforcing the scale and difficulty of the route in Scotland.
The challenge wasn’t without its hurdles. The team spent several hours battling a relentless headwind from the west coast to Inverness, which proved physically and mentally exhausting. To make matters more difficult, just 20 minutes into Day 2, the support van refused to start, putting the entire challenge at risk. “We tried and failed to bump-start it three times, in our cycling shoes no less, and had to seriously consider whether we could carry on without support” the team recalled. Thankfully, after 25 tense minutes, the van started again, and the ride continued.
When speaking to Ryan Mouncy, Managing Director at TBAT, he said:
“Those were two of the toughest days we’ve ever faced. We covered 312 miles through the Scottish Highlands, powered by grit, a great cause, and support from the amazing TBAT Innovation team. It was an honour to ride alongside Dave and Richard, with help from our incredible crew member Ian, to raise awareness for Stand Against MND in memory of our colleague and friend, Sam.”
The effort was carried out in honour of Sam Perkins, who sadly passed away in February 2025. Sam was an important part of the TBAT family and a driving force behind the founding of Stand Against MND. The charity supports both crucial research and palliative care for those affected by Motor Neuron Disease. All funds raised will further support Stand Against MND’s mission and ensure Sam’s legacy continues to inspire change.
A huge well done to everyone who got involved in any way and an extra special shoutout to our coast-to-coast team. You’ve earned a well-deserved rest!
