Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) is the only fully-bottom-up measure in Horizon 2020 promoting close-to-the-market innovation activities that is open to all types of participants. This thematic openness – combined with the possibility for all kinds of innovation actors to work together and deliver innovation onto the market and/or into society – should nurture trans-disciplinary and cross-sectoral cooperation.

FTI aims to reduce the time from idea to market and to increase the participation in Horizon 2020 of industry, SMEs and first-time industry applicants. As well as increasing private sector investment in research and development

  • Consortia must comprise of between three and five legal entities
  • Consortia must involve at least 3 different member countries
  • Consortium must allocate at least 60% of the project budget to industry
  • Maximum EU contribution per project is £2.3M or €3m
