Grant Overview

Innovate UK is working with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to invest up to £100,000 to support farmers, growers and foresters in England who want to test and trial new on‑farm ideas or solutions.

Grant Scope

The aim of this competition is to:

  • Provide grants of £2.500 for farmers, growers or foresters based in England
  • To improve the quality of Full ADOPT Grant applications
  • Make ADOPT funding accessible to a wider range of applicants
  • Enhance skills and expertise of the farming eco system

Your project will need to address major on-farm or immediate post farmgate challenges that have the potential to improve one or more of the following: productivity, resilience, sustainability and progression.

Specific Themes

Projects must address significant industry challenge or opportunities in at least on or more of the following:

  • Agriculture
  • Horticulture
  • Agro-forestry

Eligibility Criteria

If you are successful in the Full ADOPT Grants, any awards given to primary agricultural producers are subject to the green box exemption under the WTO Agreement on Agriculture.

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • Engage with an external Project Facilitator that is registered in Innovate UK’s Business Connect database
  • Work with facilitators to develop and submit and eligible applications for a Full ADOPT Grant competition

If you are successful, you will need to provide evidence that your Full ADOPT Grant application has been sent for assessment and that the claim has been submitted within six months of receiving your Grant Offer letter.

Lead: To lead a project, your organisation must be an active farming, growing or forestry business of any size based in England, and be able to demonstrate that you are an established commercial business, including sole traders and partnerships, with a UK bank account.

Project Facilitator: The Project Facilitator is the person who will be working with you to submit the Full ADOPT Grant application.

Non-funded partners: Projects can include organisations who do not claim funding for work on the project. These costs need to be covered by their own resources and can include UK, EU and other non-UK organisations.

Subcontractors: Subcontractors are not allowed in this competition.

Number of Applications: A farmer, grower or forester can only lead on one application per round and receive a maximum of two Facilitator Support Grants in total.

Grant Exclusions

The following projects are not being funded:

  • Projects that do not benefit farmers, growers or foresters in England
  • Projects that are based on funded crop variety plot trials
  • Projects based on existing demonstration trials or projects
  • Projects to produce crops or plants for medicinal or pharmaceutical use
  • For cultivated meat
  • Based on equine systems
  • Involve wild caught fisheries
  • Involve aquaculture
  • Involve fermentation systems

Grant Funding

Up to £100,000 in funding has been allocated to provide support through the ADOPT Facilitator Support Grant.

£2,500 per successful application is available and this will be issued in the form of a grant.

You can receive 100% funding for eligible project costs if you are an active farmer, grower or forester based in England.
