Overview

Coeliac UK in collaboration with Innovate UK are launching a second research call to industry and researchers to make improvements for people living with coeliac disease.

Scope

Projects must underpin and support Coeliac UK’s top ten research priorities, for example:

  • improving diagnostics for coeliac disease, refractory coeliac disease and/or gluten related neurological conditions
  • developing tools for improving the long term management of coeliac disease
  • enhancing the quality of staple gluten free food

The type of project dictates who may lead the project:

  • Early stage feasibility; industry or research led
  • Industrial research; must be industry led
  • Experimental development; must be industry led, research organisations/universities can only be subcontractors

Funding Costs

Project costs can range from £50k to £250k:

  • Early stage feasibility; 6 – 12 months, up to £100k
  • Industrial research; 12 – 36 months, £50k – £250k
  • Experimental development; 6 – 18 months, £50k – £250k

For feasibility studies and industrial research projects:

  • Micro/Small businesses can receive up to 70% funding
  • Medium businesses can receive up to 60% funding
  • Large businesses can receive up to 50% funding

For experimental development projects:

  • Micro/Small businesses can receive up to 45% funding
  • Medium businesses can receive up to 35% funding
  • Large businesses can receive up to 25% funding

Total funding applied for cannot exceed £180k.

Researchers: Please note a maximum of 30% of total eligible project costs are available to research participants, with the exception of early stage feasibility grant applications, where the maximum is 50% of total eligible costs.

Commercial organisations: The grant awarded towards the costs will need to meet the following conditions:

At least 70% of total eligible project costs should be incurred by commercial organisations. You can recoup up to 70% of your costs depending on the size of your business, the type of project and funding available.
