Overview

EUREKA PENTA cluster projects are designed to be market-driven international R&D projects aiming to develop marketable products, services or processes.

Scope

The objectives of the 2019 PENTA call are:

  • supporting projects along with Electronic Components and Systems (ECS) value chain
  • helping the formation of innovation ‘ecosystems’ with the potential of rapid subsequent commercial exploitation

The UK PENTA call is open to companies across the UK Electronic Sensors and Photonics (ESP) stakeholder community.

The UK focus is on innovation of technology that will enable solutions across the scope of the UK ESP community:

  • Electronic components and systems
  • Power electronics
  • Large area electronics
  • Sensors and sensor systems
  • Photonics

The key application areas are:

  • Transport and smart mobility
  • Health and well-being
  • Energy
  • Digital industry
  • Digital life

PENTA seeks to support the creation of partnerships along the Electronics, Components an Systems vale chain, enabling the transition from research to commercial exploitation (Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 2-8).

Eligibility

To be eligible for funding you must:

  • be a research organisation or UK based business of any size
  • carry out the majority of the funded work within the country from which funding is received

All consortia must include:

  • one partner in another EUREKA Participating Country. Funding can only be provided by countries that are taking part in the PENTA cluster
  • at least one UK SME

Research organisations cannot lead on an application, however they are welcome to participate as partners, according to each countries funding regulations.

Research organisations must be in collaboration with at lease one UK SME

Funding Costs

The funding is given in the form of a grant. For industrial research projects, the proportion depends on the size of your business:

  • up to 70% if you are a micro or small business
  • up to 60% if you are a medium sized business
  • up to 50% if you are a large business

For experimental development projects, you can apply for:

  • up to 45% if you are a micro or small business
  • up to 35% if you are a medium sized business
  • up to 25% if you are large business

Research organisations in the consortium can share up to 30% of the total eligible UK project costs – if your consortium contains more than one research organisation, this maximum will be shared between them.
