“I love what I do; working with great people to realise great ideas”
Looking back, I guess I’ve always been a tech nerd, interested in all things practical which probably explains my protracted transition from Lego into the world of engineering, R&D and technology.
Eventually staggering out of Durham University with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, I began my career in the aerospace industry with Rolls-Royce as a project engineer working on aero engine and then test bed development projects. After a number of years, I opted for a move into the rail sector with Bombardier Transportation, travelling around Europe delivering and supporting a wide variety of technical projects. During this time I was fortunate enough to do an MBA which inspired me to look into consultancy which eventually led me to TBAT Innovation (or The Business Advice Team as it was called then!).
It’s a privilege now to be Director and part owner of the company, working with a fantastically talented bunch of people who have the same passion and love for the things I do, working with a brilliant set of clients. After a number of years in multinationals, I feel TBAT delivers what they struggle to; flexibility, responsiveness, innovation and a chance to develop close working relationships. Every day is different – different client needs, different market and technology challenges – which is incredibly inspirational.
At home, my wife, daughter and son keep me on my toes and remind me what life’s all about. I’m still learning to play the guitar (badly), getting there on the piano (with the help of a long suffering super patient teacher), alongside nurturing a love of/obsession for red wine, continuing to do DIY on the “money pit”, running, climbing (no greater test as to how heavy you’re getting when you’re hanging from your own arms) and the occasional sailing trip.
