Grant Overview

Innovate UK are investing up to £11.5 million to create a cohort of ambitious businesses to accelerate concrete decarbonisation. This will be across a two-stage competition.

Grant Scope

The aim of this competition is to recruit businesses to join a Growth Cohort. The Cohort will fund and support up to 20 businesses across the sustainable concrete supply chain to help accelerate the decarbonisation of concrete.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this grant, projects must have a grant funding request of £50,0000 with a start date of 1st December 2026 and an end date of 31st May 2027. Projects last for no longer than 6 months. A video in response to the video pitch question must be uploaded.

Lead: To lead a project, organisations must a UK registered business of any size. This competition is for single applicants only.

Previous applications can be used in this competition.

Subcontractors:

Subcontractors are allowed in this competition and can be from anywhere in the UK. If using subcontractors from overseas, you must state why UK subcontractors could not be used.

Number of applications:

A business of any size can only apply and receive funding once in the first stage or this competition

Grant Exclusions

The following projects cannot be funded:

  • Projects using fresh fly ash or Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag as principal Supplementary Cementitious Materials, unless the innovation is looking to reduce their use.
  • Projects developing alternative fuels for cement productions or Carbon Capture and Storage applied to cement production where it does not involve the captured carbon being sequestered in concrete.
  • Projects focussing on aggregate, aggregate replaces or alternative fuels.
  • Projects focussing on making the streel in reinforced concrete last longer
  • Projects solely focused on additives, without considering their use in concrete, or projects concerned with replacement of concrete with other building materials
  • Projects not in original scope or projects that duplicate someone else’s work.

Grant Funding

Innovate UK have allocated up to £11.5 million across the two-stage competition. In the first stage, up to £1 million is available. Funding will be in the form of a grant.

100% of the total project costs are eligible for funding and you must apply for 100% funding. Total project costs must not exceed the maximum project size. If project costs exceed the maximum, your application will be made ineligible.
