EIDO Healthcare is the only commercial organisation in the UK specialising in patient information to support the consent process.
EIDO Healthcare is the only commercial organisation in the UK specialising in patient information to support the consent process. Obtaining and documenting the presence of consent is a medico-legal requirement for any clinician prior to carrying out an intervention/procedure. In addition to ensuring consenting patients have capacity and obtaining consent without coercion, clinicians must also ensure their patients are well informed. Although actual consent for procedures is well documented, the process itself and a patient’s comprehension of the delivered information is not.
To support the process and address this need EIDO Healthcare were awarded a grant to develop an innovative multimedia application that supports both patients and clinicians in collaboration with The Royal College of Surgeons of England and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. In addition to addressing delivery of consent information, the application documents a patient’s comprehension of the consent process, and enables a platform for patients to provide clinicians with information on health and symptoms, clinician-supported surgical follow-up, and the collection of procedure-specific PROMs (Patient Reported Outcome Measures) data.
Throughout the project TBAT supported progress through:
– Generation of Project Monitoring documentation at Project Kick Off
– Project Plan development, review and financial forecasting
– Assistance to Project Change Requests (PCRs)
– Attendance at Quarterly Review meetings
– Point of contact with Innovate UK Monitoring Officer
‘’It was an easy decision for us to engage TBAT to fulfil the project monitoring and liaison role. The regulatory requirements that accompany an Innovate UK project can be complex and it was reassuring to have TBAT's experienced and professional team behind us, allowing us to concentrate on the project deliverables.’’
