Established in 1983, Datalink Electronics is an award winning electronic product design and manufacturing company, with an extensive track record in a variety of industries including medical devices, oil and gas, rail, and scientific instrumentation. Datalink works closely with leading-edge companies, universities and start-ups to turn state-of-the-art technology and research into commercial products. This is achieved through a flexible and comprehensive service offering, including feasibility study, design, development, prototyping, certification support and full-scale production.
Their services encompass conceptual design, PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) layout, fast turnaround NPI (new product introduction), production and testing of PCBAs, and final product assembly. They focus on low to medium-volume, high-mix product profiles for a variety of sectors. Datalink Electronics Ltd offers a single service (one-off production) or a full turnkey solution where the entire supply chain is managed end-to-end, while offering engineering supporting throughout the product’s lifecycle using cutting-edge systems.
Datalink’s client base is wide, ranging from multinational PLCs to start-up businesses. Many of their clients have been working with Datalink for over two decades, which is a testament to their commitment to providing an individualised service in a constantly shifting industry.
In 2018, Datalink Electronics Ltd. engaged TBAT to support with their first R&D tax claim. TBAT initiated the support process by holding a free in-person consultation to establish the history of their company, explain the claim process and understand the basis of Datalink’s claim.
TBAT guided Datalink through the claims process step-by-step, ensuring that they were fully aware of what was happening and explaining thoroughly exactly what was required. TBAT conducted an in-depth analysis of the R&D activities, identifying qualifying projects and their associated costs. These costs were scrutinised against the HMRC guidance, and the eligible costs were identified for all R&D project work. TBAT then discussed the projects in detail with the key technical staff working on them, which was used as the basis of the technical report. This was compiled, reviewed and submitted as a detailed claim to HMRC. Once submitted, TBAT also offered support on the completion of the relevant sections of the CT600.
TBAT remains Datalink’s partner for the submission of their R&D tax credits claim. Each claim is compiled collaboratively, focusing on Datalink’s development activities and on maintaining its position at the bleeding edge of the electronics industry. To date, TBAT has identified over £2m of eligible costs across seven claim periods, allowing Datalink to access significant tax relief that has been put straight back into their development activities. This has helped Datalink to grow as a business, to remain competitive in their sector and to support the continued progression of their team of electronics experts.
We have been working with TBAT since 2018. Throughout this period, TBAT’s deep understanding of R&D tax credits and HMRC procedures has helped us to complete our tax claims annually with clear guidance throughout the entire process.
